Detox – The First Step in Addiction Recovery

A safe medical detox is critical for those with substance use disorder because it helps manage the physical and emotional symptoms associated with withdrawal. Substance use disorders change the brain’s chemistry and function, making it difficult for the individual to stop using substances on their own. Withdrawal symptoms can be severe and even life-threatening, and a safe medical detox can help manage these symptoms and ensure the individual’s safety. Medical detox provides round-the-clock monitoring and support from healthcare professionals, who can administer medication to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and manage any complications that may arise during the detox process.

Does GraceWay offer Detox?

No, we do not offer detox at GraceWay and we require that residents are fully detoxed before they enter our long-term program. GraceWay’s focus is to provide a comprehensive and holistic approach to addiction recovery, which includes addressing the physical, spiritual, and emotional aspects of addiction and provide long-term support in both our residential and sober living programs.

Our intensive residential program is designed to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals as they work through the recovery process. The program is typically 90 days, and is individualized to meet the unique needs of each person.

During our residential program, residents participate in a variety of therapeutic activities such as individual counseling, group therapy, and family therapy. They also receive education about addiction and how to manage their recovery. The goal of the program is to help individuals understand the root causes of their addiction and develop the skills and tools they need to maintain their sobriety in the long-term.

In addition to our residential program, GraceWay Recovery Residence also offers Sober Living at The Way Apartments to those who graduate from residential and are seeking extended support. This program is designed to provide ongoing support to individuals as they continue to work on their recovery. One of the key aspects of the program is the focus on employment and financial literacy. After completing the residential program, residents will seek employment and be provided with an 8-week financial literacy class through Ameris Bank. This class helps residents learn the skills they need to manage their finances, budget and save money, and plan for the future.

In addition to the financial literacy class, residents will continue with individual counseling, aftercare groups, and work the 12-steps. These activities are designed to provide ongoing support to residents as they continue to work on their recovery. The goal is to help residents continue to develop the skills and tools they need to maintain their sobriety in the long-term, while also becoming independent.

How to Choose a Detox Facility?

Choosing a detox facility can be a difficult decision, but it is an important step in the addiction recovery process. Here are a few things to consider when choosing a detox facility:

Accreditation: It is important to choose a detox facility that is accredited by a reputable organization such as the Joint Commission or the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). These organizations ensure that the facility meets certain standards for quality and safety.

Staff qualifications: Look for a detox facility that has a team of qualified and experienced medical and mental health professionals. These professionals should be licensed and trained to provide care for individuals going through the detox process.

Treatment approach: Different detox facilities may have different approaches to treatment. Choose a facility that aligns with your personal preferences and needs.

Location and Amenities: Consider the location and amenities of the detox facility.

Cost: Detox facilities may vary in cost, and it’s important to choose one that fits your budget. Some facilities may accept insurance, while others may offer financial assistance.

By considering these factors, you can make an informed decision and choose a detox facility that is the best fit for your needs. It’s important to remember that addiction recovery is a process that requires commitment, patience, and support, and that the detox facility is only one part of it.
